📿 AYURVEDA YOGA 📿

Ayurveda (translated as the “Science of Life;” Ayus = Life, and Veda = knowledge/science) is the Sister Science of Yoga. Most people have heard of Yoga, but Ayurveda is something that’s not quite as mainstream. Just like Yoga, Ayurveda can sometimes come off as a bit intimidating to anyone brand new to it, but both Yoga and Ayurveda can be incredibly accessible once we begin to learn more. Ayurveda may actually help us with our yoga practice and our yoga practice can help us bring Ayurvedic principles into our lives. They truly are “Sister Sciences”.

When we are balanced in our body, mind, and spirit through Ayurveda, we can connect more deeply to our yoga asana, meditation, and pranayama practices. This Ayurveda Yoga class will move through simple asanas (the physical shapes), pranayama (breath-work), and meditation.
Both Yoga and Ayurveda aim to free us from suffering. It’s inevitable that we will all experience some form of suffering during our time as human beings here on planet earth. We all move through similar experiences like birth, life, disease, and death but for some reason, most of us are shocked when we’re faced with these experiences. Yoga teaches us that we are so much more than these experiences and that we’re all connected to something higher and more eternal than what we see here on earth. Some lineages call this God, love, or even a greater higher truth.
Ayurveda teaches us that most, if not all, disease begins in the mind. When we pollute our mind with thoughts that cause worry, anxiety, stress, sadness, or any other lower emotion, put ourselves into a state of dis-ease. We are no longer at ease with our lives and with who we are. This may begin to manifest as complications in our physical body and also in our subtle body. Yoga and Ayurveda come together to give us tools to recognize the beauty in our lives and in everything we do. Both provide practices for us to love ourselves and the world around us. All levels and bodies are not only welcome, but encouraged.

This class is offered every Sunday.

📿 Skinner Releasing TechniqueTM (SRT) 📿
Skinner Releasing TechniqueTM (SRT) is a pioneering approach to somatic movement that has evolved from the simple principle that when we are letting go of habitual tension patterns we can move more freely, articulately and powerfully. Joan Skinner, a choreographer, dance improvisation pioneer and former dancer with the Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham companies, developed the technique in the early 1970’s. Today, Skinner Releasing Technique is a comprehensive training system that has become a considerable influence on leading artists and lovers of movement across the world.

This movement class is inspired through a process of discovery. We will explore ways of letting go of holding patterns, letting go of our breath and experiencing multi-directional alignment. We will explore suppleness and its relationship to strength and readiness. The class invites something new to happen by igniting the power of imagination. All levels and bodies are not only welcome, but encouraged.

We're all born as natural movers, with innate coordination and animal-like grace. As time goes by, we tend to lose touch with this natural ease. Muscles tense unnecessarily, and our alignment goes askew. The Skinner Releasing TechniqueTM (SRT) lets us practice letting go: letting go of stress, letting go of unnecessary holding in our body, letting go of preconceptions about what is supposed to happen, letting go of fear of awkwardness, letting go of the belief that we don't have the right body for dancing. We let go of habitual holding patterns and habitual ways of thinking in order to let something new happen. Eventually, we find energy and power. We rediscover our natural alignment, improve strength and flexibility, and awaken creativity and spontaneity.

SRT can be beneficial to people recovering from injuries as well as movers at any level. It can enhance any movement style and any activity. For many, it's catalytic in their lives, with multi-faceted, far-reaching effects of opening and enhancing, no matter what it is they do.

This class is offered every Monday.
-
6-7pm (open to anyone)

*Disclaimer about SRT:
This class involves exercises where you will be touching other bodies and receiving touch from others or myself as a teacher. It is essential to the process and methods of Skinner Releasing TechinqueTM (SRT). Please send a message to The Movement Kitchen if you have any questions or concerns regarding this practice.
